Watercolorist Dan Burleigh Phillips paints in a broad range, from pure abstract minimalism through finely honed representations to impressionistic landscapes. He produces aquarelles, usually 22”x30”, done in transparent layers by large brushes. He has been painting since childhood.

Since his works evolve in the creation, he neither sketches them beforehand nor crops them afterwards: they are what the brushes say. Of these he offers this brief, eclectic sampling; of backyard gardens, doomed landmarks, passing fancies, and secluded vistas… small signs of the life about us and the constancy of change.

Born in Wisconsin, he holds a B.A. in psychology from the University of Wisconsin, with brief forays into several graduate schools. Since arriving in Central Florida in 1977, Burleigh has been recording his visual impressions of the area. He and his wife, Vicky live near DeLand.

More than twenty of Dan’s paintings are being exhibited and are for sale at the Bellamy Road gallery.
